Even though I have these gripes with the game, Dead Island Riptide had me hooked again. I love the open world gameplay, the weird but ironically charming characters and the first person zombie slashing, using the weapons I crafted or got from beating a massive zombie berserker. Techland has managed to rope me back in and take a deep dive into a beautiful zombie infested tropical island that I couldnt stop looting. If you loved Dead Island then Riptide is a game you will want to jump into as it feels just as fun, addicting and rewarding as its predecessor.

"Dead Island Riptide was one of my most anticipated games of this year, as I absolutely loved the first game and couldnt wait to see what our group of survivors were up to this time around. I mean, its an Open World, First-Person Shooter with RPG elements that has you killing zombies, exploring a huge island and collecting loot. Its got a little bit of everything that I love about video games and I couldnt have been more excited when I got my hands on the sequel last week."

"Dead Island Riptide splits the difference between the original game's terrible and great moments to create a serviceable followup, which is still enjoyable by definition, if not quite as memorable." - Mike C, Velocity Gamer

AtomicGamer: "The biggest issue with Dead Island Riptide is that it's a glorified expansion pack sold at nearly full price ($40 US on PC, $50 on consoles); there's nothing wrong with a developer doing this if they're adding lots of features and are building on top of a near-universally beloved game, but the simple fact is that neither of those conditions really apply here. It's still fun to slice zombies up and on PC the game looks decent, runs online with four-player coop just fine, and is at least somewhat unique, but these tepid words I'm using should give you the impression that Dead Island Riptide just doesn't add enough on top of the original to really excel. It works and it's generally fun, but don't expect a revolution."

Dead Island Riptide is an open world Action Role-Playing game (RPG) in which players are tasked with surviving a viral based zombie outbreak isolated in a topical setting. The game is a follow-up to 2011's original Dead Island game

Excerpt: "The main missions are of a different variety though, forcing you to into new locations, then backtrack quite often. Environments are more native, feeling less inhabited. The new defense missions are sparse, but are intense and frantic affairs that really add to the experience. One of the early sieges from the zombie horde comes at a time where the entire town is engulfed in flames while waves of zombies of increasing strength attack. It certainly breaks up the aforementioned fetching.
Dead Island Riptide is priced like a budget title, and while at times it may perform or act like it, it still has its own identity and story with new areas to explore and weapons to craft. Riptide is to The Lost World as Dead Island is to Jurassic Park. Its a different island, but with the same problems as before. That said, Riptide is my preferred Dead Island experience. Theres just more variety and fun to be had from lessons learned from the 2011 original. A word of caution to those lo...

The Dead Island franchise had always been one for grabbing headlines. That first trailer for the original Dead Island amazed people, hitting almost a million views in 24 hours. More recently, the zombie bait edition of riptide caused Internet outrage. However, that is as far as the attention grabbing goes. Unlike the media surrounding it, Dead Island Riptide is unimaginitive, unintelligent, unremarkable undead rubbish.

"Riptide repeats pretty much every problem that plagued its predecessor, and fails to do anything interesting or inspired with the same-old formula.
"It offers a fraction of the fun delivered by Left 4 Dead, cant hold a candle to the anarchic brilliance of Borderlands, and is neither a truly engaging sandbox experience nor a genuinely satisfying action-horror."

OPM: Youd have thought Coolio would have taught me better, but two years ago, I kept spending most of life living in a coffin-dodgers paradise. And I really dont know why. Sure, Techlands first zombie open-worlder had some sturdy melee scuffles, but it was also plagued with bugs, dull objectives and hateful characters. Now I find myself booking yet another holiday with the same unreliable, undead travel agent and the package deal has only gotten worse.
